Baggage weight in air india   Desi   12/09/2016 01:29 AM

Hi, am travelling by Air India and I would like to know how strict they are with baggage weight. One of my check in baggage is 25-26 kgs, other one is 22-23 kgs. Will they charge me extra luggage fee which seem to be 100$?

I remember when I came from British airways and the baggage weight was almost same, but they were ok. They didn't charge me anything.

Please post if anyone has similar experience?

I think the extra luggage means another baggage not overweight.

Baggage restriction is to maintain weight and balance on an aircraft. Previously, it all depended on how full the flight. So weight leniency was upto discretion of the checkin agent. Lately its become more of a revenue matter. So in short the answer is to be prepared to pay for extra baggage or to offload some stuff and send it back with whoever is dropping you off.
Just a tip. Chocolates or candies carry a lot of weight, so avoid taking those. You can get all this in India...probably cheaper.

Safe travels !!

Thank you. I think this helps.

And you were right, some of the chocolates were heavy.

in my past travels with Air India, I have ended up paying additional since I had about 1 KG over weight.. The staff was so rude, they just said whether you want to remove stuff or pay and if I want to think or discuss, move out from the row and make way for others, take your time to think and then comeback, no negotiations.. well that was my experience.. so I never traveled with AI post that incident.

Thanks for sharing your experience, one of my friend also told me the same thing. They are not so friendly and won't consider even if it little over weight., now even though I remove lot of things, it's still going to be over 23kgs in one bag.. Am thinking of paying extra and keeping some more.

Last time i took British airways.. My baggage was 25kgs, the agent did not even mentioned/asked.

Now I realize I shouldn't have taken Air India.. At least for other flights overweight price is half of what air india is charging
