Baggage restriction is to maintain weight and balance on an aircraft. Previously, it all depended on how full the flight. So weight leniency was upto discretion of the checkin agent. Lately its become more of a revenue matter. So in short the answer is to be prepared to pay for extra baggage or to offload some stuff and send it back with whoever is dropping you off. Just a tip. Chocolates or candies carry a lot of weight, so avoid taking those. You can get all this in India...probably cheaper. Safe travels !!
