Re: Buying/Registering a used car   DM   11/16/2016 11:51 AM

Hi All,

I recently received the learners license. I am planning to buy a used car. I have a few queries:

1. Can i register the car at DMV with my learners license? (I also have a valid Indian license)

2. My road test has been scheduled for Feb 2017 (no earlier slots were available . I would need a driver to accompany me (as per the rules). Do the driving schools provide one?

3. There is a requirement for a Driver Education Certificate (form CS-1). The following are the requirements for it:
30 hours of classroom and 8 hours behind-the-wheel driving or
8 hours only of Safe Driving Practices course.

Is the 8 hour course enough if I previously had a US licence from another US state (now expired) and I also have a valid Indian license? Are there any other tests required (alcohol etc.)?

Would appreciate any info on the above.

1- Yes
2- Most of the driving school provide one. If you want to drive your own car please find a friend who can help you. Also if your Indian license is valid ( mean you have not completed 1 year and your license is in English) you can drive on your own.

3. 8 hour safety class is fine.

Thanks MG. The DMV folks also mentioned something about a Drug and Alcohol course. Is this covered in the 8 hour class?

Any idea how much the cost for this class/course is?

Thanks!

8 hour class is approximately 100$.

Where have you taken your appointment for Driving Test?

Thanks. I got the Learners license from the Weathersfield DMV today. They have given a road test date for Feb (90 days from learners, it seems). Since I already had a US license from another state before (expired in 2012), I should be getting a permanent DL much sooner. Not sure whats happening here.

well, as per CT DMV rule, if your out of state license is expired for more than 2 years, you need to apply for Learners Permit..
