OH God! this is very sad to hear the news of this fatal accident. We pray to the almighty to give courage to their family members.

One more thing, I don't think there was any need to mention "TELEGU STUDENTS". It can be just Four Indian Students.

Thanks

Re: Looking for Apartment in Stamford   Venkat   04/18/2009 08:41 AM
Most of the downtown apartments are having indians and they work for either UBS or GE. Some of the apartments to start with are

1. Royal Pavalion - furnished, very small, garage parking and flexiable lease
2. Bedford Apartments - Road side parking and no reserved spot
3. Fairview
4.Avalon
5. Fountain terrace

etc. etc.

Currently Minimum rent would be 1200 for one bedroom. It used to be 1500 six months back.

Search in Sulekha.com

Hope this helps.

Have a great day

Most of the visitor insurance people dont cover any major conditions, you have to read their fine print.

If you dont have preexisting conditions it should be ok.

Re: Bars, clubs, and lounges   YK   01/27/2010 08:28 PM
We went to their New Year's Eve Bollywood Night. While their music is great and gives us a chance to really dance the night away, their service is less than stellar! We spent $50 per ticket, and by the time we arrived the snacks were done. They weren't overly crowded, but they were definitely short staffed and couldn't handle the drink requets at the bar. And, because of this, they had to stop filling drink requests to take care of pouring the champagne for the New Year's toast. The bartender actually waved his hand in front of us and told us he couldn't serve us! This would NEVER happen at non-Desi establishment - never. It's too bad, because we were so happy to know that a desi club was so near to us; we live in stamford too and are looking for other places. Unfortunately, I think Madeiras is monopolizing the situation and they think that because so far they are the only type in their line of business, they can get away with their ill manners. I would love to go back, but I was treated so bad that I don't feel comfortable. Glad you weren't treated as we were!

I dont know whats your budget and expectations, but you will find Indians everywhere in Hartford and Windsor.
Downtown is not bad unlike other US cities.

There are apartments in farmington avenue with considerable Indians

Other two I know are

1. 250 Main apartments
250 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06106

2. Woodcliff Estate East Hartford CT

You will find lots of indians who live in milford and catch the trains to new york city daily.

Its better to rent aan parment closer to station because you may not get parking spot near the station immedietly.

I can think of aparments in robert treat drive, they are not of best class, but 90% indians and low rent

Not sure what standard rules they follow, but if you have the temporary status written on your existing DL, you need to start from the scratch including written and theory exam, if you are okay with that, yes they will give you for 6 year term, I didn't wanted to write or attend there classes , so what I did was went to 3 different locations, at the third location ( Enfield ) , I got lucky ....not that I don't know how to drive or beat the exam, but I love the other ways....

Please let me know about this. My budget for rent is around $1000 -$1200 2bd apt including utilities in rent.
Sorry to bother you but i don't have any idea whether i can find the best and safe apt with it.

Re: Re: Re: ct apartments   jk   07/15/2010 05:35 PM
Avoid bridgeport. Connecticut is expensive, you can get that price near Hamden, West haven or milford.

I think Strattford, milford or shelton is closest/safest to your work place.
If you have a car its better to stay way and commute.

Most of the areas are not good, crime infested , high car insurance and high city tax.

Tts like crime ridden downtown area. there are some good areas but very risky.

some indians live there but not sure how or why.

Actually, moving date isn't fixed. We were targeting 15th August, but we can't leave the apartment till we get someone to sub-lease it. I like Stamford, downtown is happening. It got a nice library. You see lot of Desis when you go out in evening. But its very expensive. We have other stores but Walmart, Costco are in Norwalk, which is like 5 miles from Stamford.

HI Ruchi,

Apartment is 1160 ft. Floorplan is available at this link : http://www.newburycommon.com/floorplans.php?floorplanID=2137 . Swimming pool is heated one, its covered so is available throughout the year. With heating actually it depends. They have the same box which serves as Air conditioner and heater...so it don't do anything properly. For the first month when we moved in December, the bill came a little high. Other people have small oil heaters, they say its more efficient.

nearby Areas to avoid if you are new to CT.
Bridgeport (75% bad)
Norwalk (50% bad)

There are good neighbourhoods in the above but can be found if you live in CT.

Stamford is good overall. It wont be like midwest but crime free and live compared to other cities in CT.
Lots of Indians live in Stamford and work in New york by train everyday.

You can ask the apartment management about the crime and car parking facilities. Avoid apartments that have only street parking.

Norwalk is not a good area.

Decent ones will cost the same like stamford.

If you use google map to locate apartments, try to get apartments on the west of I95 road.

You can get the same in Stamford area for that price, if you dont need car parking or street parking is fine.

we recently moved to stamford. yes, this place is really expensive...

we were tired of our apt search within our budget($1200-1400)
we contacted local realtor here... ofcourse they showed apts within our budget.. but they were are old and we din like it..

check www.ctbestapts.com they are the management group of townhouse apts, morgon manor, hoyt bedford. these apts are close to downtown, pretty decent with indian comm.

I am currently renting a 2 bedroom apartment in Stamford for $1700 in Morgan Manor community. The actual rent is close to $1800 but since I am breaking my lease, I am offering some money. There are a lot of people from UBS who live in that complex.

Give me a call at 703-994-6861 if you are interested.

Thanks,

I have a 2 BR apartment that I am renting for $1700. I am offering discount from the actual rent of $1800 since I am breaking my lease and dont want to pay the penalty.

If you are okay with sharing then you can find someone to share the apartment (since it is 2 bedroom apt).

Call me at 703-342-8381 if interested.

Thanks,

Around 1400-1500 for decent apartments. Make sure you check for roaches/bed bugs free apartments. Communities that have all facilities and clean are at a bit higher rates. Avalon is ard 1500+ for 1 Bed, Stamford Community ard 1600+, Newbury Commons ard 1700+. There are many owner apartments that are cheap. You should try to get a real estate agent who can help you find apartments. They are free to us and they charge to apartment owner for that so you should be fine.
Also, check www.ravis.com its a good site where you can have a basic idea and see rental listings in Stamford.

Best of Luck !!

Whats you budget?

Wilton is very expensive place to live and rent, but a beautiful town

There is an avlon community in community but pretty expensive to rent.

You can try in Norwalk, Stamford, Fairfield.
Norwalk areas are bad especially the east side of I95 highway.
The west side should be ok but check before you in there.

Do you have a family.
Its calm but no fresh air.It will look like a motel from inside. Some kind of stinky smells will be all over the apartment.
Only few desi family's are staying here.we took it for just 6 months lease.
Gas, hot water, heat are included in the rent.Thats the only best thing in the apartment.$700 per month for 1year lease, $800 per month for 6 months lease for 1 bed room apartment.
If you are still interested to stay in gateway condominium apartment i would like to give the leasing number.

Best option for h4 would be to apply for h1 visa or join as a student and get a job later

Not eligible to work on a job which pays. Can certainly do voluntary work, but with proper approvals.

Be very cautious in this, many housewives have been caught, charged and de-ported by IRS (which is USCIS now)in the past. NY and NJ has witnessed this mass extradition few years ago. Do not take the risk to work on H4, even if a desi company agrees to hire you.

Good Luck.

2)Enroll in software training or teach students

There are many QA/software training institutes. Some are on this site and sulekha.com. You can learn and they will market you for a job
if you know programming/QA testing already you can teach for them.

3)Involve yourself in open source projects for 6months-1 yr and gain experience. This will get job easily on h1.

Search google for apache open source projects. you will find plenty but requires some programming knowledge.

4)Do marketing for Indian companies and develop business contacts for them without being an employee.

This is wide open area, ranging from exporters to software companies. You can help anyone in your family circles and be a liason for them.
Other way:
See www.elance.com or www.rentacoder.com that bid for projects.
You can find Indian companies there and ask them if you can support or be contact point for them. Many dont have US office or US person.
You can also do it individually , bid for projects and do it if you like or pass it to someone else.

Re: Looking for Apartment in Bridgeport & Around   prince   02/14/2011 03:56 AM
Bridgeport is a mixed neighbourhood.
Some areas brodering Trumbull Strattford Fairfield are good but other areas are crime prone. So you need to be there and see for yourself

Its better to stay in Milford Trumbull areas.
