| Motot Vehicle Tax (Car) in Manchester $159 for six months |

I bought second hand car from Mew York. I moved to Manchester, CT and got it registered. For six months (Apr to Oct 2014), Town of Manchester, Collector of Revenue has sent me Motor Vehicle Tax Bill of $159. This is absolutely ridiculous. When I called Collector's office, I was told the car model is 2012 and that is why taxes are computed accordingly. It is a nightmare to receive $159 bill for every six months. I never heard of any such taxes in any other states I've lived so far in US. Is this for real? Request anyone living in Connecticut for long time to comment. Any way to get these taxes reduced?

When you register you Car at DMV in CT, they report your info to the Town Tax Collector. Yes in CT, we have to pay property tax for our cars. Few other states also have. MA has but not as that much of CT.

This is true and unfortunately you have to pay. Sorry sir, but welcome to CT, which is one of the highest taxed states in the country.

my car is of 2011 model and i got bill of $250 as TAX

I own a house in Farmington and per year, I pay $535 for sewer and waste collection, around $7000 for property tax on my house and over around $600 for property taxes on my 2 cars.
I am sure $159 for six months does not sound a bad deal now !
Just a note, when you file taxes these taxes are deductible, that is this will reduce your income tax and you will get back some portion the tax you paid.
