Traffic ticket   Venkat   07/22/2019 08:49 PM

I got a traffic ticket in NY state for driving in the left lane where there was a sign that says 'Keep right expect to pass'. I was driving well under the speed limit. so the officer gave me a Disobeyed traffic control device ticket. THis is my first ticket and I have a CT driver's license got in 2018. Can someone please guide me on how should I respond to the ticket?

Behind ticket should give you option to go online and pay for it. If you want to fight against the officer appear in court on the date in new york i personally think waste of time. Just pay for it.

Pay the fine and call it a day, most states are cracking down on drivers who drive in the left lane at slower speeds as this prevents the fast drivers from passing and leads to more traffic and accidents as it makes the person going fast frustrated and aggressive. Or you can go to court and ask to make a payment to charity or something in exchange for ticket charges to be dropped, worst scenario is that they will ask you to pay the fine and next time if you are driving in the left lane keep up with the traffic and it’s okay to go over the speed limit upto 7-10 mph so you can pass a vehicle.

My company provides me a lawyer for this kind of issues.. now when I had ticket for the first time, my lawyer asked me to get drivers history which was clean until that point to prove I am a good driver so far and this being first offence, there was a plea deal where speeding ticket in NY was converted to failure to yield traffic control device which was no points and just $100 fine with $94 court fees.. Since my company provied lawyer, I saved on lawyer fees and avoided trip to court there since lawyer was local there and they handle it there own way..

Basically what I am saying is see if you can get a plea deal for reduced fines.

and I forgot to mention most importnant point, try to get a plea deal to have non-moving violation as oppose to moving violation.. Moving violation will increase your insurance rates for 3 years and adds up points in that particular state ( although connecticut does not assign points from out of state ticket, it still expects you to clear the ticket by either paying fine or getting charges dropped), if you settle for non-moving violation, you just pay one time fine and should not see insurance rates surge for several years.

U sign in back for plea for no guilty. U get the letter for court date. Go to court and discuss, 99% being yhe first offence they let u go without fine or less fine, depend on judge. Personal experience
Now, U decide if u wish to give a time and a trip.
