I have a couple of fully-funded Ph.D. program offers from Ivy league schools (Harvard/Columbia/Cornell). It will be a 4-5 year full-time program in Computer Science. I want to know how much I will lose in the 5-year span if I do not work and plan to pursue a Ph.D. program. All the professionals who have worked for more than 5 years in their twenties, what will be an estimated value that I will be losing during graduate school? It will help me plan my finances.

Currently, I make around 110k as a software engineer. I have only worked for one year, and I am not sure how the bonus, stocks, etc. contribute towards the salary over the course of 4-5 years.

Go ahead do the PHD

If your research is out of this world(Computer science, it should be out of this world to earn money because that market is crazy)

You will earn your money back in 1 year because ur creative and a good thinker and people will pay you for your invention expertise.

And the programs being at IVY league will only help your cause.

All the best

Thank you! I did my masters here and bachelors in India. I had worked in India for a year and then in the USA.

What you have heard about the green card process is somewhat accurate. It takes a lot more than just one out of the world article.

Thank you! I will start a blog soon. Pursuing a Ph.D. is not about education, it's about learning to do research. Online programs teach you the theoretical concepts without any practical involvement. You can learn a new programming language or concepts of software engineering, but you cannot get the hands-on experience without a university degree.
