civic, but its a smaller car, why would you compare two different sizes?
How Close?
You couldn't fit a business card in the gap between these competitors.
Honda Accord Key Advantages:
Plenty of tech to play and play with, awesome resale value, beautifully turned out
Toyota Camry Key Advantages:
The poster child for reliability and safety (10 airbags!), 2013 interior is a step up
Nissan Altima Key Advantages:
A price leader, fuel-economy champ and tamer of twisty roads

Civic and Altima are in two different segments, Civic in the compact and Altima in the mid-size. However, a lot depends on whether you're looking at a new one or a used one. The new Altima, from whatever I've seen, is a very good car, closer to the Maxima. But the earlier versions aren't so good. Civic is, however, a driver's car, one that is for an enthusiast. Can't say so much about the Altima though.
I'm in the market too, and I've been blown off by the dynamics of the Mazda 6. To me, the new accord is right behind the Mazda 6 and though the Camry is reliable, its a yawn! A boring car to drive.
Now answering your question very specifically, Civic is the best option if you are looking at a driver-oriented dynamically sorted car. But if its a family sedan, Altima is a better pick
