I dont think so. I came here last year summer and didnt take flu shot.

By the way ,it all depends on how you exposed to public places as well and how your immunity supports your body.

Flu shots can cover only 40% of flu types. Its mostly for old people or young children.

We should all take flu shots. Its a misconception its only for old people and kids. Yes, if old people or kids get flu it can be fatal even, but by taking a flu shot you are protecting yourself from falling really sick. If a single shot can give you that protection, why would you not take it...or would you rather risk falling badly sick.

BTW, I am a male 40, with two kids. Both I and my wife got the flu few years back, and it was the first feeling ever. Since hen all of us have been taking flu shots since past 7-8 years. There is no reason not to take a shot.

Yes, do take the shot.
And ye, it is not 100% effective, but not taking it is means its 0% effective. Condoms are not 100% effective, does that mean we should not use them too?

I agree, if a shot can offer protection as opposed to falling really sick, why not take it.

my 3 cents, and whats your logic for that? Did your friend tell yoi that or you heard it from someone. Before opening your mouth make sure you d some research.

Flu shots save you and insurance companies ton's of money because if you do fall sick, it will cost you, your insurance company and your employer lots more in lost wages, medicines and doctor fees. So use some brain and get a flu shot, which most insurance cover any ways, otherwise cost $25 at CVS or Walmart.

In fact clinics and doctors love it if you don;t get the sot, because that means chance of you getting sick and paying them more are high .

Flu shot is not for all kinds of sickness. You will get sick, but it protects from the FLU. Its not a magic shot - read about the FLU.

You can't say it did not work. Flu shot not only prtects you, but also if you do get sick it makes sure illness is not that severe. I can't seem to find any downside of it other than it does not work - again which are dicey statements. Lets say even if it does not work - WHAT THE HARM IN GETTING IT? Worst case, it will not work , best case it protects you. What have you got to lose?

(at) uf, I think you are like those people who think these medicines are miracle and save you from anything. Its just business, wake up.
Regarding the Flu shot, it is nothing but a very little amount of dead microorganisms, they are injected into human body so that we generate anti-bodies as a response. So, the real medicine is your immunity. All I am saying is don't tamper with your body unnecessarily. These medicines are not natural, they are chemical mixtures created with the sole purpose of curing a particular ailment, enough research cannot be done within one's lifetime about the side effects of the product and no one wants to either.

One can only take a horse to the water, to drink or not is up to the horse.

Its idiots like you 3 cents who make me mad. You have these old beliefs and want to live under a rock. Yes, you are correct - these shots do 'wake' up you immune system. So whats the harm? Its a proven technique without any side effects. Its either that or get exposed to the disease and then let your immune system really work hard.
Yes, these are chemicals - but do you realize the human life expectancy is going up year by year? I am not advocating indiscriminate use of medicines. Yes, those can be bad and have side effects. Should be avoided at all costs. But flu and immunization shots are different category. Polio has been eradicated from the world, because of immunization. It took great deal of struggle to convince parents like you in poor countries to get the kids immunized.

Little knowledge can be dangerous. Get your facts straight and do some real research.

Hi,
I don’t mean to cause any chaos
I was just asking about us from India Indians have good immune system, no allergies to food or anything)
I eat both veg non veg no nut or peanut etc allergies
who never had flu just normal cold cough fever which would not last more than 3-4 days.
I am from south India and have always been around warm temperatures places

Also I read this article on ‘fake’ news cnn about high flu vaccines effectiveness is falling down

Thx for the love.

All I am saying is our bodies are very sophisticated yet balanced after thousands of years of evolution, do not tamper that balance for money.
What you need for winter is sweater/jacket not a flu shot. Medicines may save lives in emergencies but they do not keep us healthy, our lifestyle especially food, exercise(body and mind), social interaction is what can keep us healthy.

my 3 cents, what you say makes lot of sense, and is the popular thing to say. I am sure you will get kudos from many, because that is what is taught in our culture - that is distrust of western medicine. But you are wrong in the case of flu shots and immunizations - these are not medicines in the normal sense. What you write is a typical Indian mentality - but we do need to learn and adapt if we don't want to get extinct like the dodo. For centuries we were told to put dirt on our wounds or put oil on burns, which are just the opposite of what you should do. Immunizations are also something that is new and we do need to put aside our old blind faiths.

Also, your logic that this is done for money is totally opposite to reality. Yes, they do it for money because by taking the shot you protect yourself from paying the expense of being sick. This is designed to save you money, not earn from you. Prevention is better than cure - heard that? You know how much is costs to treat someone who gets critically sick - compare to the $25-50 you spend on getting a shot. You seem to be penny wise but pound foolish!

Hi S,

Thanks for sharing the article. I think everyone is missing the point here. The point of flu vaccines is not 100% protection. Yes, they are effective only 40% of the time. But compare that to not getting the shot. How much effective is that?
Also, one you get the shot and get the flu - the chances are it will not be that severe. Just these two facts should be enough to make you get the shot.

Well, I could go on asking you that science is nothing but the wisdom gathered by 'questioning' and that's what I do rather than just believe the general consensus. But, like I mentioned before, I can only take the horse to the water. Also, you don't need to be mad. If you are not able to control it, I am sure there may be a chemical compound to help you, try that.
