Railroad at weathersfield dmv   New driver   08/25/2017 09:54 PM

Hi want to know if anyone had their Road test at weathersfield DMV . I want to know what exactly you do when you approach the railway crossing. It is an abandoned one .

to the best of my knowledge, passenger vehicles do not stop (at) railroad crossings, unless there is a red flashing light or something like that. I'll be happy to stand corrected, if incorrect. it may be abandoned, but assume & act as if its in use.

reasons to fail at rail road

1. Stopping on train tracks.
2. Not stopping at white line b4 the
striped bar when red flashing.
3. looking left and right while passing on tracks
4 not slowing down in case track are not even as road.

just pass on train tracks as if its a bad road.

I failed twice because of slowing down .to my knowledge the railway sign is as good as yield sign so I used to slow down approaching the tracks 😒
So your suggestion is to just pass it normally without slowing ???

You should drive normally when you drive through the crossings that has gates and signals.
The examiner will check if you are noticing the railway crossing signs and the lights.

There are no gates ,no light and signals .it is no longer in use . It has rail road sign on the road and then a crossed R at the side . The rails are in the middle of the road .
Next time I will just pass the tracks without slowing down ,looking left and right before the tracks.Hope the examiner likes it .

You should not slow down but do a complete stop.

'Railroad Crossing' or 'RR'
These signs are usually accompanied by flashing lights and bells that will warn of an oncoming train.

If you encounter a railroad crossing without lights or sounds, you should come to a complete stop and check the train tracks for any oncoming locomotives.

U should not stop but slow down a bit and look left and right.

To show the examiner u are slowing down just apply a little brake once u come to rr sigh and also when u reach the tracks and as soon as u pass the tracks increase your speed, which makes it noticeable .

I am really getting confused now,😊
Some members are saying complete stop before white line some are saying to just slow down .
I tried slowing down twice . My examiner wrote that it was a fail due to slowing down to almost a stop.

If its unused there will be a sign that its unused. If its so no need to slow or stop

I got my license from wethersfield and i just slowed down at railway crossing and never stopped completely.

May be it depend on examiner to examiner how they take it.

Best way is to schedule your next test to some other location.

All the best.

Better option is to opt different DMV .. Weathersfield DMV is bit tough compared to other DMVs based on my experience.

Slow down, but not to a point of almost stopping (e.g. if driving at 35 mph, slow down to 30 mph). Take quick glance left and right, note emphasis is on quick and glance, so do not have to bend neck all way left and right, while slowing down and keep driving. The point is to show you noticed rail tracks, but don't slow down to a point of obstructing following traffic.

I guess you are right . I asked my examiner she said I don't have to make complete stop there.
