Did you get the international permit driving license from india. if Yes, you can drive for 6 months. if not, you are not supposed to drive. Always advised to write the written test and give the road test after 30 days of completion of living in CT.

When I came here, I was driving with my Indian license. I was stopped by a cop once and I just showed that. He just let me go. Unless and until you are at fault in an accident, there won't be dire consequences. And, most of the cops don't even know that we are supposed to get International License to drive

you can drive as long as supported by valid CT insurance.
I know many who has been driving for years and faced situation of speeding.

And they are driving today as well with same.

Rohit,

For such type of information it is best to consulot the official source - the DMV. http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=805&q=244730

Here is what is says:
Students and Visitors to Connecticut:

An IDP is not considered a valid license. It must accompany the valid foreign license. Connecticut permits a student or visitor to operate a motor vehicle in Connecticut for a period of up to one year with his or her foreign license. If the license is in a language other than English or Spanish, the license must be accompanied by an IDP which serves as an English translation of the foreign license.

Note: Out-of-country licenses are not acceptable as a form of identification.

Yes you can drive with your Indian license for 1 year but you need to carry your passport copy and a copy of I-94 with you when you are driving. I-94 will make sure you still fall under 1 year timeframe. This rule is applicable only in few states and CT is one of them. I have driven my car for atleast 8 months on Indian licence and 2-3 times I was stopped by cops but none of them questioned me back on my license.

You dont need IDP( International driving permit) unless your Indian license is not in English.

Safe Driving and plan to appear for road test asap and get a permanent CT license.

Note:- Not a legal advice but based in my personal experience.
