It also depends from where you are travelling and how long you have stayed in foreign country. In case if you are travelling from US and have stayed for more than 60 days, you are allowed i think $500 worth of goods without custom. But need not to worry, if they stop you at the custom, do remember Na baap bada na bhaiya, Sabse bada rupaya. They still take bribe (no offense). On second note, while picking up your luggage at the airport, you will see some guys ready to help in carrying your luggage. Hire them, they will charge 50-100 Rs per bag and they go easy from Green channel. That's what i do all the time. Custom never ask them any question.
