If your husband works for an IT firm and is not sure how long you are going going to be here, I think it is a good idea to buy the needs first and then the comforts and lastly the luxuries. Car is a need in CT, may not be in some other states. Living room furniture, you can get second hand and once you are sure of the future plans and have some savings buy it as they are a bit expensive and more of a long term investment. Just my piece of advice.
