Do not be concerned about the pay in the first place, which I believe you aren't. I understand your perspective of doing an IT job here so that it remains a value-add once you return to India. 2) It may not be easy to crack an IT Interview straight away. I suggest you take up a course for QA or BA and then try for a job, This should work better. QA and BA profiles are easiest to comprehend if you do not have a technical flair for development. I'm not an authority on this, but this could be of some help. Everyone, it is possible that the girl is in a bad situation. Few words of whatever insights you have will be helpful for her, let us please not elongate this thread with the level of atrocity thats currently on display.
