Thats a million dollar question (or half a million dollar), my 3 cents. So you are talking of 12 % return on investment. If anyone had a sure-shot way of doing that we would all be rich ! As you know, more rewards means more risk. My suggestion is invest in the overall stock market index funds. This year for example the S&P 500 has returns of over 20%. Ofcourse, there will be up years and down years - but on an average you would get that 10-12% you are looking for. Another advice is ofcourse not to invest all in one investment (all eggs in one basket, heard that?). Always diversify. If you have 500 K to invest, do get a qualified financial adviser who can help you with asset allocation.
